At the crossroads of construction and gaming : simulation
After a short ramping up in the company where I created the Level Design tutorials for newcomers (there were none at the time), the first module I had the opportunity to work on is the Bulldozer and 3 new exercises to an existing pack. With CM Labs’ proprietary engine I was able to get a lot of information from the machine and its environment. This abundance of data allows the Level Designers to create meaningful feedback to the operators.
One of the widget I created for this is the interpreter of the Grade Quality Sensor that computes a grade for the planearity of an excavation based on the position of a table of points in the terrain (their average altitude compared to the target and to each other in order to compute the overall irregularities)
Otherwise, the module focuses on all the safety measures that are needed to operate this machine in a real environment. All basic operations are covered in different short exercises, from unloading the vehicle from a trailer to spreading material around manholes for road creation.
